7:30 am start

Training for the Chicago or New York Marathon? The 3 Beach Minimum is a great way to add a structured run to your last long run or taper plan!

field

The field is limited to 400 runners so it’s pretty cozy– not the throngs of runners you have to battle at other events. Be warned though: we sell out almost every year, so don’t delay in registering, lest you miss out on this truly special run.

location, directions and parking

The start and end of the course is located at Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA, in the parking lot between the Mary Jeannette Murray Bath House and Lucky Lemons, across the street from the Paragon Carousel.

Ample free parking is available in the DCR parking lot along the beach between the old Beachfire restaurant and the Tivoli Bath House. Additional parking is also available north of the Mary Jeannette Murray Bath House near the Parrot.

Note that the only entrance and exit to the main parking lot is at the south end near the old Beachfire restaurant (not pictured), ~120 Nantasket Ave. Directions below lead you to that entrance.

From Route 3: Take Exit 35 (old Exit 14) for Route 228 Hingham/Rockland and follow signs for Route 228 North and Hingham/Nantasket. Stay on Route 228 for about 6.5 miles to the intersection of Route 3A.  Cross over Route 3A and after another 2.1 miles, the ocean will come into view. The entrance to the parking lot is straight ahead and to the right, just past Atlantic Ave.

From Route 3A, Heading South: Take the second exit off the Hingham Rotary following signs for “2nd District Court”. In .75 miles, bear right at the light to stay on Rockland St. (do NOT go straight, following signs for “Nantasket, Hull”). In just over a mile, turn left onto Route 228/Nantasket Ave. (Victoria’s sub shop will be on your right). In .6 miles, the ocean will come into view and the entrance to the parking lot will be on the right, just past Atlantic Ave.

From Route 3A, Heading North: Take a right onto Route 228 in Hingham and follow for about 2.1 miles; when the ocean comes into view, the entrance to the parking lot will be on the right, just past Atlantic Ave.

lodging

Don’t want to make the drive that morning? Or, want to turn this into an end-of-summer weekend getaway? How about both? Consider staying at the Nantasket Beach Resort. Located right along the beach and just steps from the start/finish, this is the perfect place to post up and relieve yourself of all those pesky race logistics.

packet pickup

Race packets will be available at Marathon Sports in Norwell the Thursday before the race (Sep 26, 5:00-6:30pm), and also the morning of the race at the start/finish area (6:00-7:15am).

Runners who get their packets at Marathon Sports will enjoy a 15% discount off all footwear, apparel and accessories, so get your gear early and save some $$ while you’re at it!

course amenities

The course will have aid stations approximately every two miles, supplied with both water and lemon/lime Gatorade. Because of the out-and-back nature of the course, three aid stations will cover six different mileage points:

  • Black Rock Beach (intersection of Jerusalem Rd. & Forest Ave., miles 2 & 11)
  • Sandy Beach (miles 3.5 & 9.5)
  • Cohasset Harbor Inn (miles 5 & 8)

Put another way, and for those who think more linearly (and precisely), aid stations can be found at miles 2.1, 3.6, 5.1, 8.0, 9.5 and 10.9.

Bagels, bananas, oranges, water and flavored Hint waters will be provided before and after the race at the start/finish area.

Bathrooms and changing areas are available near the start and finish area at the DCR’s Mary Jeanette Murray Bath House. Portable toilets will also be available at each aid station.

Medical assistance will be located at the start/finish area and available to be dispatched to the course for any participants in need of help.

post-race par-tay

Join us at The Parrot, just steps from the start/finish area for the post-race celebration, starting at 10:30am. Kick back, take in the views, and play back the race with your friends while you throw down a couple of cold ones and bask in the glow of what you just accomplished!

rules

  • No strollers, baby joggers, in-line skates, dogs on leashes, bicycles or walkers will be allowed (insurance limitation, sorry).
  • Three-hour time limit.
  • Personal music devices are allowed but discouraged, both for safety and c’mon– you’re tough enough to do this without a crutch…enjoy these beautiful surroundings!
  • The course is open to traffic and as such, runners must run on the right side of the road at all times. Monitors will be riding the course on bikes, and runners crossing to the other side of the road to cut the corners/tangents WILL be disqualified. This is for your safety and in fairness to your fellow runners.
  • No refunds or deferrals will be made available. Please consider taking the insurance when registering through Active as it provides protection against life events cropping up which may interfere with you participating in the event.
  • Runners may transfer their entry to another runner via Active until 11:59pm ET, Aug 23. Bib transfers outside the Active process are NOT allowed and will result in disqualification from future races for all runners involved. This is a serious insurance issue so please follow the process before the deadline, or be a good sport and just eat the cost after the deadline has passed– remember, proceeds from the race go to charity.

transfer process

Once we sell out, we don’t keep a waitlist but runners looking to either obtain or transfer a bib are free to post on our Facebook page so you can find one another.

3 Beach Minimum does not charge a fee for transfers, and note that the incoming runner will pay their own registration fee to Active, with the current runner getting refunded theirs. Any exchange of money to facilitate the transfer (i.e. selling your bib) is between those two parties.

Here’s the detail on how the Active transfer process works:

  1. The currently registered runner initiates the transfer via Active, supplying the email address of the incoming runner.
  2. The incoming runner will receive an email from Active inviting them to register.
  3. The incoming runner registers for the race, paying their own registration fee, choosing their own t-shirt size (note that size is not guaranteed after Aug 1), signing their own waiver, etc.
  4. Once the incoming runner registers, the current runner’s registration is cancelled and they are refunded their registration fee.
